1ST MONTH

ANOTHER KIND OF TEACHER

Learn about the pedagogy of Another Kind of School and another Kind of Teacher, gaining insights from the founding ideas of the school. Meet teachers, students and the community around the school as you start your work together with the students. Make an investigation to learn about the school.

2ND MONTH

THE TEACHER AND SCHOOL IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Learn how different social problems, mental health issues and neglect affect the learning abilities of children and young people. Get closer to the students through practical, creative or sport activities. Design the first monthly teaching practice with the leadership of the school or care home.

Highlight:
The Olympic Games is held for up to 300 students and teachers from small schools, care homes and day schools to join together for 2 days of sport and fun.

3RD MONTH

ECO-LITERACY & STEWARDS OF TOMORROW

Learn how different social problems, mental health issues and neglect affect the learning abilities of children and young people. Get closer to the students through practical, creative or sport activities. Design the first monthly teaching practice with the leadership of the school or care home.

Highlight:
The Planet Protection Conference hosted by DRH Lindersvold gathers students, teachers and guests from around the world on the issue of sustainability and future.

4TH MONTH

ETHICS OF A TEACHER IN A WORLD OF PEOPLE AND POLITICS

Broaden understanding about the driving forces of development past and present and the main issues in the world today. How do these issues impact upon the work of a teacher? Continue to gain an understanding about the students whilst defining a solid ethical stance in practice in the daily life.

Highlight:
The Autumn Concert is an occasion for teachers and students to show their creativity through poetry and art, and share with each other through an event.

5TH MONTH

The Essence of Teacher Attitudes and Teacher Values

Learn methods and examples of how to unfold the potential of each student through personal attitude and with the concept of the teacher as a leader as a foundation. Make considerations of how to develop own attitudes and values towards the students. Use the new learning to carry out actions.

6TH MONTH

Teaching for Power or for People

Learn examples of how teaching and learning can be a foundation to (1) serve the elites or (2) serve and empower people to create better lives. Continue finding ways to develop connectivity to the students. Take stock of own learning and contributions to the students so far. Plan the next period.

Highlight:
The Winter Concert is a music event of extraordinary quality where students and teachers meet professionals in a month of shared musical experiences.

7TH MONTH

The Fight of The Poor

Learn about the conditions of The Poor in different parts of the world. Investigate the conditions of poor people in rich countries; why are they poor, how they fight to better their conditions and with whom, and who is fighting against their right to live in dignity. Take bigger responsibilities with students.

8TH MONTH

Open Future

Study the concept of Open Future through alienation and its consequences, and through viewpoints from experts on reaching a sustainable future. Explore how the pedagogy of Another Kind of School leads to Open Future, and define how you will act within that framework.

9TH MONTH

FARMING FOR FOOD

Learn about the benefits of sustainable methods of farming and that a sustainable future depends on small-scale farmers and the need to grow food using sustainable methods. Put theory to practice by working in the school garden to grow flowers, herbs and vegetables with students and staff.

10TH MONTH

EUROPE’S LEGACY

Study the development of Europe past and present; the role of Europe in other parts of the world; and issues of race, gender and identity in Europe. Form hypotheses on divisions and potentials within the EU for investigations, and plan the travel. Make a highlight for the students & leave a footprint

Highlight:
The Peace Justice Conference hosted by the DNS – the Necessary Teacher Training College gathers together people from all over Europe to debate issues of peace.

11TH & 12TH MONTH

Learn to travel, travel to learn

Final preparation and departure for a 6 weeks investigation in different European countries about the European reality; meet diverse groups of people and organisations, make interviews to compile a patchwork of impressions about contemporary Europe – and the legacy we leave for the future. Test the hypotheses and make new ones according to new learning. Conclude with thorough reporting techniques consisting of writings, film,

GENERAL PROGRAMME STRUCTURES*

  • 160 hours per month – teacher-in-training at a school or care home
  • 20 hours per month – practical pedagogical assignment
  • 5 hours per week – learn Danish
  • 10 hours per week – individual studies tasks
  • 5 days per month – meet together with the team for study days at DRH Lindersvold
  • Weekly and monthly status with headmaster and leadership of the work
  • Quarterly status meeting together with the team

Involvement in school life can include organizing sport and art, health, food production, cleaning, activities with students, community work.

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES GAINED

B-Certificate in Pedagogy
Apart from all the studies throughout the programme, you will gain a B-Certificate in Pedagogy through online learning with ISET Higher Institute of Learning in Mozambique. Five subjects are part of the certificate.

Danish Language
The students and professionals with whom you work are Danish and you work in a Danish setting. Therefore, although many in Denmark people speak English, there is a need for learning to communicate in the Danish language to gain the best possibilities to communicate with the students and be part of their development.
